A Look Inside: Inner Harbour (Demo)

Introduction

Kingston’s Inner Harbour encapsulates a wide variety of housing types, local businesses, and various amenities, all while displaying some of the cities most beautiful 19th century heritage buildings, constructed with local limestone.

The neighbourhood has seen significant development over the past few years, with an influx of development and renewal into the area, the socio-demographic nature of this area has changed, bringing with it new housing complexes.

Geography

Adjacent neighbourhoods include CFB Kingston and Sydenham. There are numerous schools, parks, and childcare centers within the neighbourhood.

History 

With a history spanning back to the early 1800s and numerous historic buildings, churches, and sites, the Inner Harbour neighbourhood contains some of the cities most beautiful limestone buildings. 

In order to protect the various heritage sites within the neighbourhood, the “Friends of Kingston Inner Harbour” was set up to protect the various locations. They also are happy to hear community concerns and are always looking for new members.

Demographics

bagotOne of the more populated neighbourhoods, the Inner Harbour has approximately 7,271 residents in a total of 3,694 dwellings. As previously mentioned the area has experienced some rejuvenation in the past few years, with many first time homeowners and students calling the neighbourhood home.

Prices and dwelling types vary widely from single-detached, townhouses, apartment complexes, and older limestone buildings. There are certainly many options for all tastes and price points.

Notable Surroundings 

KingstonBeing so close to the downtown core, Princess Street, there are numerous amenities and attractions nearby, including downtown shops, theatres, and numerous restaurants and pubs. If you’re ever looking to catch a hockey game, Kingston’s own team the Kingston Frontenacs call the K-Rock Centre home, various other concerts and events are also held at the venue year-round.

As the weather gets warmer, catch a ride on the Wolfe Island Ferry and visit the scenic island, you won’t regret it.
