Introduction

Strathcona Park is a pleasant suburban neighbourhood, popular among families looking to settle down due to its convenient location and its proximity to numerous parks, green spaces, and various schoolyards.

The community itself is known for its friendly people, safe environment and numerous amenities and services nearby. The neighbourhood itself is quite similar to that of Calvin and Polson Park in terms of price ranges and the vintage feel.

Geography

The neighbourhood is officially bounded by John Counter Boulevard to the north, Sir John A. Macdonald Boulevard to the east, and Princess Street to the southeast. Various neighborhoods encircle Strathcona, namely, Hillendale, Grenville Park, Cataraqui North and Alcan. With an additional childcare center located within the Grenville Park neighbourhood and the public high school L.C.V.I within walking distance.

History

With the majority of dwellings built in the 50s and 70s this neighbourhood has a vintage feel, not only in terms of the architecture but the numerous parks, and other public open spaces located within the neighbourhood, which truly add to the quaint and peaceful feel of the neighbourhood.

Demographics

w475h356As of the most recent census, Strathcona has a population of 3,132 with a total number of 1,350 occupied dwellings, highlighting the prevalence of families within the area. This population has been quite stable over the years, and comprises of a wide variety of ages, with 45 to 64 being the largest section. The average family income is similar to that of the city, with most residents obtaining a college or university degree.

Most properties in the neighbourhood are single detached houses, followed by row houses and a few apartment complexes with the majority of residents owning their homes.

Simply head down the main street, Princess, and you will find yourself among numerous shops and other attractions. If you head in the other direction, Kingston’s largest shopping center, the Cataraqui Center, is filled with numerous well-known brands.

If you are looking for something a little closer there are various restaurants and pubs within the area to offer good food and drinks. If you’re looking to get more active as the warmer months approach, the nearby tennis courts and playing fields will suit your needs excellently.
